El Calafate

Crossing the mountains north of Ushuaia the easy way. Unlike the nearly two-day bus ride from Ushuaia to El Calafate, the flight took about two hours and cost just about the same |

I took the VES shuttle bus from town to my hostal. It also will pick the travelers up when it is time to fly out. You can pay both tickets upon arrival, which I did |

The hostel was quite acceptable, once I figured out the routine and then walked down a very steep hill into town, across the bridge, find the supermarket, and scouted the place out. |

This relatively quiet town was about about adventuring around the glaciers and the post-excitement parties and hostels and hotels. |

Decisions, decisions. There was a whole street of restaurants and souvenier shops. Not for me, my budget did not allow a lot of frivolity and I shopped in the supermarket and took meals or ingredients home. As you can imagine, this is a total tourist centric community and not much is cheap, unless you find your way around, which I quickly did. I found the racecar crazy baker, who spoke a little English, but catered mainly to the locals, etc. |
